'My fight is against power group members facing allegations in Hema Committee report': Shwetha Menon

Kochi: Shwetha Menon has once again spoken out over the ongoing controversies surrounding the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA), alleging that those accused in the Hema Committee report are using certain members to personally target and defame her.

In a statement shared on social media, the actor said her fight was against the alleged “power group” facing serious allegations in the Hema Committee report and not against individual members of the organisation.

Shwetha said she had deliberately avoided making public comments earlier but was forced to respond after alleged attempts continued to distract attention from the core issues by attacking her personally.

“My fight is against the power group that faces serious allegations in the Hema Committee report,” Swetha said, adding that attempts were made to humiliate and remove her during the organisation’s previous annual general body meeting. She claimed her opposition to the group was not a recent development and that she had always supported its alleged victims without seeking publicity or personal gains.

The actor further alleged that when she raised questions over alleged financial irregularities involving some members, she faced personal attacks instead of answers. She accused certain individuals of spreading false narratives about her while ignoring the issues she had raised.

Addressing allegations that she had paid crores of rupees to help candidates of a national political party secure positions in Kerala, Shwetha questioned the logic behind the claim. She said she had no reason to hide her political views if she belonged to any party and pointed out that members of AMMA’s executive committee had affiliations with different political parties.

Shwetha Menon urged members not to bring politics, religion or communal issues into the organisation, saying artists had always been respected beyond such divisions.

She added that allegations of corruption, including those acknowledged by actor Ramesh Pisharody, were not receiving enough attention amid the controversy. Shwetha asserted that as long as she remained in AMMA, those facing serious allegations in the Hema Committee report would never be allowed to lead the organisation.

She also said she could not be intimidated or silenced, insisting that the truth needed to be heard and that AMMA deserved better.

Earlier, Shwetha Menon had alleged that the same "power group" was behind attempts to remove her as AMMA president. She had also claimed that Mohanlal was forced to step down as the organisation's president because of the group's influence. In that context, she stated that an ordinary woman would find it difficult to take on such a powerful section of the Malayalam film industry alone.
