'Not just me...': Shine points to drug culture in films, plans to move court against FIR

Kochi: Actor Shine Tom Chacko may approach the court with a plea to quash the FIR registered against him in the ongoing drug case. Reports suggest that discussions have begun with legal experts to initiate the process. Legal steps are expected after the results of the samples collected on Saturday are released.

Earlier, Shine Tom Chacko had admitted to using drugs during police interrogation. However, the police have expressed doubts about his willingness to undergo a medical test. They suspect that Shine may have used antidotes to mask the presence of drugs during the medical examination. If true, this could make it difficult to detect the drugs in his system.

Shine appeared at the police station on Saturday morning in connection with the drug case. After being questioned for around five hours, he was arrested and later released on bail. He has been charged under Sections 27 and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) and Section 238 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The actor had fled from the third floor of a hotel in Ernakulam on Wednesday night during a police inspection. After this, police issued a notice summoning him to appear at the station. Shine appeared at the station 48 hours later and was reportedly not expecting a case to be filed or an arrest to be made.

Claims of widespread drug use in film industry

During questioning, Shine told police that drug use is widespread in the film industry and that many well-known actors are involved. However, he clarified in his statement that the responsibility lies only with him and another actor.

Financial transactions under scrutiny

The police are also conducting a detailed probe into Shine’s financial dealings. Police suspect that transactions involving amounts between Rs 2,000 and Rs 5,000 were made to individuals and not for any shop purchases or other regular expenses. They believe these payments may have been for drugs. However, Shine’s explanation is that he often lends money to friends and these transfers were part of such informal loans.
