Hearing on anticipatory bail plea of Omal Lulu in rape case adjourned

Kochi: Hearing on director Omar Lulu's anticipatory bail plea in the rape case has been postponed to August 2.
Justice C S Dias is considering the petition. The actress who is the victim of sexual assault has joined the party opposing the bail plea.
In a petition filed against Omar Lulu's request for anticipatory bail, the complainant alleged that Lulu made false promises of marriage while hiding his existing marriage. The complainant also accused him of sexually assaulting her by promising a role in his upcoming movie. She was called to the hotel on the pretext of film discussion and raped after being offered a drink which was laced by MDMA, the victim stated in the petition.
The complainant also stated in her petition that Lulu has a history of drug addiction, and the Palarivattom Police initially registered the case. Later, the case was transferred to the Nedumbassery Police station following directions from the City Police Commissioner.
She further alleged that the accused has been threatening to settle the case privately, involving his driver Nasil Ali, friend Azad and others. The complainant claimed to possess mobile conversations as evidence, which she agreed to present before the court.
The petition argued that Lulu holds significant influence and could potentially tamper with witnesses and evidence if granted bail. The petition also demanded that the accused be taken into custody for further questioning.
Earlier, the court had granted interim anticipatory bail to Omar Lulu. The director claimed that the complainant had been residing with him in his apartment since 2022 and their relationship was consensual.
