Salim Khan to return home today; after month-long hospital stay

Mumbai: Veteran screenwriter Salim Khan is set to be discharged from Lilavati Hospital on Tuesday, March 17, after nearly a month of hospitalisation for age-related health concerns.
The 90-year-old was admitted on February 17 under the care of senior consultant Dr Jaleel Parkar. During his stay, he underwent a diagnostic procedure known as Digital Subtraction Angiography (DSA), performed by neurosurgeon Dr Nitin Dange. The procedure is used to identify cerebrovascular conditions such as aneurysms, vascular malformations, and blockages.
Doctors had earlier confirmed that Salim Khan experienced a minor brain haemorrhage. A small procedure was carried out successfully, after which he was placed on ventilator support temporarily. Medical experts noted that given his age, recovery was expected to take longer, though his condition remained stable throughout.
Recovery and discharge
According to hospital sources, Salim Khan has recovered sufficiently and is now ready to return home. His discharge is scheduled for Tuesday morning. His family had earlier indicated that he was steadily improving in recent days.
During his hospital stay, Salim Khan was regularly visited by family members, including his sons Salman Khan, Arbaaz Khan, and Sohail Khan. Several close friends from the film industry also visited him, including Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, and his long-time collaborator Javed Akhtar.
Earlier, Arbaaz Khan had shared that his father’s condition was improving and that he would be returning home soon.
Legacy in Indian cinema
Salim Khan is widely regarded as one of the most influential screenwriters in Hindi cinema. Alongside Javed Akhtar, he co-wrote several iconic films such as Deewaar, Don, and Sholay, which helped redefine storytelling in Bollywood during the 1970s and 1980s.
Overall, his discharge marks a positive development after a period of health concerns, with family and well-wishers expressing relief over his recovery.
