Sai Pallavi has revealed that she initially felt she was “miscast” in the upcoming romantic drama Ek Din, saying she believed the role required someone with more “flamboyance.” Her co-star Junaid Khan, however, strongly disagreed and praised her performance in the film.

In a video shared on the Aamir Khan Talkies YouTube channel, Sai Pallavi recalled a conversation she had with Aamir Khan after watching the film.

“When Aamir sir asked me to say something after the screening, I told him, ‘I don’t think I was meant to do this and I think I am miscast. I feel so. I think it should have been a new person who had a little bit of flamboyance,’” she said.

Junaid Khan quickly interrupted her and said, “You are so wrong,” before going on to praise her acting in the film. He particularly spoke about a drunk scene, saying Sai Pallavi performed it “so well” despite not drinking in real life.

The two actors also discussed the film’s live sound recording and dubbing process. Junaid shared that one of Sai Pallavi’s lines had to be dubbed again because her Hindi sounded “too good” for the moment in the scene. Laughing at the memory, the actress responded, “I remember.”

Sai Pallavi said the film came to her at a time when she wanted to move away from emotionally intense roles and work on something lighter.

“It is not about the scale of a film that drives me. At that point in my life, I had done a lot of heavy films and I wanted to do something that was light… that did not have me carry a lot of trauma through the making and even after,” she said.

The actress added that the script reminded her of Before Sunrise, one of the reasons she agreed to do the project.

Directed by Sunil Pandey, Ek Din is produced by Aamir Khan, Mansoor Khan and Aparna Purohit under Aamir Khan Productions.

The romantic drama is a remake of the 2016 Thai film One Day. The story follows a man who falls in love with his colleague but cannot confess his feelings. His wish to spend just one day with her unexpectedly comes true.
