Govt decides to declare 'The Sabarmati Report' movie as tax free in state: MP CM Yadav

The Madhya Pradesh government on Tuesday decided to declare "The Sabarmati Report", a film on the Godhra train burning incident of 2002, as tax free in the state.

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav made this announcement and said he will also go to watch the movie.

"'The Sabarmati Report' is a very good movie. I will go to watch the movie myself. I also told my ministers, MLAs and MPs to watch this film. We are also going to make it tax free in the state so that maximum people can watch it," Yadav told reporters here.

He said it (Godhra incident) was a dark chapter of the past and truth will come out through the film.

The movie, which is based on a real-life incident, focuses on the tragic events that took place on board the Sabarmati Express, particularly in coach S6, which departed from Ayodhya station towards Sabarmati on February 27, 2002. The horrific incident, where 59 passengers, including innocent women and children, were brutally burned by miscreants, has left a lasting impact.

At the time of the tragic event, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the Chief Minister of Gujarat.

Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised 'The Sabarmati Report', describing it as a significant film on the 2002 Godhra train coach-burning incident. He remarked that it is good to see the "truth" coming to light.

Directed by Dheeraj Sarna, the film was released on Friday and collected Rs 1.69 crore at the box office on its opening day. It also stars Raashii Khanna and Ridhi Dogra in pivotal roles.

Production banner Balaji Motion Pictures shared the opening day collection of the film in a post on Instagram.

The banner shared a poster which mentioned the day one numbers of the film and captioned it, "A story of truth, resilience, and courage, making waves at the Box Office."

"The Sabarmati Report" is produced by Ektaa R Kapoor, Shobha Kapoor, Amul V Mohan and Anshul Mohan.
