Following the violent intensity of the hit film "Marco," Cubes Entertainments has announced a high-profile reunion with acclaimed composer Ravi Basrur for the upcoming action drama "Kattalan."

The film, which serves as the directorial debut for Paul George, is produced by Shareef Muhammed and features a pan-Indian ensemble led by Antony Varghese Pepe and Dushara Vijayan. Supporting roles include prominent actors Sunil and Kabir Duhan Singh. Set for a global theatrical release in May, the production recently concluded an extensive 140-day shooting schedule.

In a promotional video reintroducing Basrur, the production house emphasised his return to the Malayalam industry following his work on the "K.G.F" franchise and "Marco."

"Before the hunt begins, a sound rises… a sound that shakes the wilderness, a sound that controls fear," the statement read. "Not merely music, but a force, a storm... The rhythm of power, Ravi Basrur, reunites with Cubes Entertainments."

A Sonic Powerhouse

Ravi Basrur, currently one of the most sought-after composers in Indian cinema, is noted for his aggressive soundscapes that have redefined the action genre. While Basrur leads the musical direction, the film will also feature contributions from celebrated Kannada composer B. Ajaneesh Loknath, who is providing an additional track.

Public interest in the soundtrack has already surged following the viral success of the lyrical video for 'Majako Mallika' and an electrifying teaser. The film's music rights have been secured by T-Series, while Shemaroo has signed on as the digital and satellite partner.

Expansive Production and Practical Effects

"Kattalan" distinguishes itself through a commitment to large-scale technical execution. Unlike many modern productions that rely heavily on visual effects, the film’s team confirmed that elephant-combat sequences were filmed using a live animal. The elephant, named Pong, gained international fame in the Thai martial arts classic "Ong-Bak."

The production commenced in Thailand under the guidance of world-renowned stunt coordinator Kecha Khamphakdee, whose credits include "Baahubali 2: The Conclusion" and "Jawan." The action choreography utilises traditional Thai martial arts, further establishing the film's "primal" aesthetic.

Creative and Technical Credits

The project features a screenplay co-written by Paul George, Joby Varghese, and Jero Jacob, with dialogues penned by veteran writer Unni R., the voice behind modern Malayalam classics like "Big B" and "Charlie."

The technical crew includes:

  • Cinematography: Chandru Selvaraj and Renadive
  • Editing: Shameer Muhammed
  • Production Design: Sunil Das
  • Sound Design: Kishan and M.R. Rajakrishnan
  • International Distribution: Phars Films

The supporting cast is equally diverse, featuring veteran actors Jagadish and Siddique alongside contemporary talents such as Anson Paul, Raj Tirandasu, and the rapper Baby Jean. Emerging composer Nihal Sadiq is also slated to produce a high-energy promotional track for the film’s marketing campaign.
