'Ramayana' release date has a sweet connection to Ranbir Kapoor's daughter Raha

The makers of ‘Ramayana’ have finally locked in the film's release date. Along with the announcement, they also unveiled a new English-language trailer that offers fresh glimpses of Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi and Yash in the much-awaited mythological epic.
The film stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana and Sunny Deol as Hanuman.

Sony Pictures confirmed the release schedule through its official X account. The first part of Ramayana will hit theatres on November 6, 2026, just ahead of the Diwali weekend. The second instalment is scheduled to arrive around Diwali 2027.

The release date also has a personal connection for Ranbir Kapoor. The film is set to release on November 6, which coincides with the birthday of his daughter, Raha Kapoor, who turns four this year.

While promoting the film earlier, Ranbir Kapoor reflected on what playing Lord Rama meant to him. He admitted that he initially questioned whether he was the right person to take on such a revered character. The actor also spoke about how becoming a father and playing Lord Rama felt connected.

"It was such a sweet coincidence in my life. Raha made me a better person and Ramayana wanted me to be a better person for Raha, so everything was connected. Like I said, I was at the right place at the right time when a film of this magnitude was being made on our truth, on our culture, on our history in the most authentic way. It was just a blessing and I'm going to be grateful for all my life."

The trailer opens with Yash's Ravana, presenting him as a powerful ruler whose ambition throws the world into chaos. As darkness spreads, Lord Vishnu takes birth as Rama to restore balance and defeat evil.

Ranbir Kapoor is shown as Lord Rama, while Sai Pallavi's Sita features prominently in the early part of the story. The trailer also revisits key moments from the epic, including Rama's exile to the forest for 14 years, setting the stage for the larger conflict with Ravana.

Big Diwali release, but competition overseas

With its November 6 release, Ramayana is expected to benefit from the extended Diwali holiday period in India, which could give the film a strong opening at the domestic box office.

Internationally, however, it is likely to face competition from ‘Godzilla Minus Zero 2’, which is scheduled to release on November 3, just a few days before Ramayana arrives in overseas markets.
