Actor Ram Charan issued a public apology after accidentally mixing up cricket and football while speaking about Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah during the music launch event of upcoming film Peddi in Bhopal. The moment quickly went viral on social media, with fans widely sharing clips from the event.

Ram Charan attended the launch alongside A. R. Rahman, Janhvi Kapoor and members of the film’s team. During an on-stage interaction, the actor was asked to describe popular Indian cricketers in a few words.

He called Sachin Tendulkar’s career a “long legendary run”, described MS Dhoni as “calm and cool”, and said Rohit Sharma is “everybody’s man”. For Virat Kohli, Ram Charan simply said, “Fire”.

However, while praising Bumrah and calling himself a big fan, the actor accidentally mixed up cricket with football. The clip soon began trending online, especially after viewers noticed that the anchor hosting the event did not correct the mistake.

As the video gained traction online, Ram Charan apologised to Bumrah in a social media post.

“Uff… I’m genuinely so forgetful with names sometimes. Apologies to

@Jaspritbumrah93 Ji for the mix-up - it was a genuine human error in the middle of all the excitement and the crowd. I truly respect you and I am a huge fan of your game,” the actor wrote.

He also said he deeply respects Bumrah and admires the way the Indian fast bowler continues to make the country proud with his performances.

Apart from the viral moment, Bumrah is also in focus during IPL 2026 due to concerns around his workload and fitness management with Mumbai Indians.

Mumbai Indians head coach Mahela Jayawardene recently said the pacer had been dealing with a slight injury issue since the T20 World Cup. According to the coach, the franchise has taken a cautious approach considering Bumrah’s history of back injuries.

Jayawardene said Bumrah was given extra rest before the IPL season and gradually rebuilt his rhythm during the early matches. While the pacer managed only four wickets in 13 games, opposition teams still approached him carefully throughout the tournament.

The Mumbai Indians coach added that Bumrah has looked sharper in recent matches and regained his pace, yorkers and confidence. He also said there are no major concerns over the pacer’s fitness and expects him to “come back strong”.
