Tamil cinema’s dream project: Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan set to team up

Chennai: The long-cherished dream of Tamil cinema fans to see superstars Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan share the screen is finally edging closer to reality. Their daughters, Soundarya Rajinikanth and Shruti Haasan, have confirmed that a collaboration is indeed in progress, with Rajinikanth set to star in a film produced by Kamal Haasan’s banner, Raaj Kamal Films International.

At a recent Galatta Tamil awards ceremony, Shruti and Soundarya delighted fans by addressing the much-asked question about their legendary fathers’ long-awaited team-up. When asked if audiences could expect to see the two icons together soon, Shruti smiled and said, “We also wish for it. We are also waiting like you,” glancing at Soundarya, who nodded in agreement.

Pressed further for updates, Soundarya offered a tantalising confirmation: “Definitely, Appa will work in Kamal Uncle’s banner (Raaj Kamal Films International). What kind of movie it will be and all those details are a work in progress. So, Thalaiva himself will reveal it soon.” Her remarks suggested that while the collaboration is on track, details such as the director and storyline are yet to be finalised.

Rajinikanth himself hinted at the partnership earlier, telling reporters at Chennai airport, “Next, we are going to do a film produced by Raaj Kamal and Red Giant. The director has not been decided yet. I want to act with Kamal Haasan. If we get the right story and character for it, we will act.”

Amid speculation that ‘Dude’ actor and filmmaker Pradeep Ranganathan would direct the film, he clarified in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that he would not be helming the project, saying he is currently focused on acting.

Rajinikanth was last seen in Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Coolie, while Kamal Haasan’s most recent appearance was in Mani Ratnam’s action epic Thug Life. Fans across the globe now eagerly await the historic collaboration of Tamil cinema’s two greatest stars.
