Kochi: Responding to remarks made by former DGP Tomin J Thachankary regarding the loan taken for the Malayalam superhit film Pulimurugan, the film's producer, Tomichan Mulakupadam, took to Facebook to clarify the situation and defend the movie’s success.

Recently, Thachankary has claimed that despite Pulimurugan's success, its debts remain unresolved. Thachankary, who served as the Managing Director of Kerala Financial Corporation (KFC) at the time, revealed that the film’s actual financial situation was far from what was presented by its producer.

Responding to this remark, Mulukupadam revealed that Pulimurugan—starring Mohanlal and directed by Vysakh—remains the project he is most proud of in his career. The film made history by becoming the first Malayalam film to gross over ₹100 crore.

"Despite some unnecessary controversies surrounding the film, the claims made are untrue," Mulukupadam wrote in his post. He added that the production costs exceeded the original budget, but the film was ultimately profitable.

The producer confirmed that he took a ₹2 crore loan from the Kottayam branch of Kerala Financial Corporation for the film, which he fully repaid by December 2016.

"I also paid over ₹3 crore in income tax for the film, which itself highlights the financial success of the project," Mulukupadam said. He also pointed out that the movie had made over ₹100 crore in just three weeks before its release abroad.
