'Proud of WCC; actresses in other languages should be more vocal,’ says Manjummel Boys director

Director Chidambaram has stated that while women in the Malayalam film industry have begun to speak out about harassment, actresses in other language film industries are not as vocal. He made these remarks during a question-and-answer session regarding the Hema Committee report at the ABP Live Summit.

Chidambaram asserted that women in the Malayalam cinema sector are currently safe, expressing pride in the work of the Women in Cinema Collective (WCC), which has been instrumental in creating a supportive environment for female professionals. 

He noted, "According to my information, women in the film industry are more secure now. The Hema Committee report is based on incidents that occurred five years ago. However, unlike women in our industry who have spoken out, others have not come forward, possibly due to various influences." He added that this initiative has set a precedent, reflecting positively in Tamil and Telugu cinema as well.

Chidambaram also expressed his pride in the WCC for encouraging the Kerala government to release findings from the Hema Committee report, which exposes issues within the film industry. He highlighted the importance of creating a safe working environment for women, stating, "Every workplace should provide a secure atmosphere for women."
