Kannur: Actress Suhasini says she is very proud of her son Nandan’s leftist thinking.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Happiness Film Festival at Taliparamba, the veteran actress revealed that her son used to be a CPM volunteer.

“Nandan is not like other children. When he came home from school, he would watch the telecast of sessions of the Indian Parliament. I used to wonder what kind of child I gave birth to. At twelve years old, he started reading Das Kapital. One day, he went to the CPM office, holding the book in his hand. He did not want the party members to know that he had a car so he asked it to be parked elsewhere and walked there. The first thing the party members asked him was whether he had food. That is the speciality of the communist party. They did not ask him who he was or where he came from.”

“After eating the food, he met the party secretary. When asked about his father's name, he used Mani Ratnam’s real name, Gopalaratnam Subramaniam. After he uttered my name, they asked him whether he was the son of Mani Ratnam and Suhasini. Later, he became a volunteer,” Suhasini said.

Suhasini said that she is very proud of her son’s political consciousness, which is rooted in his beliefs.
