'Had no idea she was Aamir Khan’s sister': Prithviraj on casting Nikhat Khan in 'L2: Empuraan'

Actor and filmmaker Prithviraj Sukumaran is actively promoting his much-anticipated action thriller L2: Empuraan, starring Mohanlal. During a media interaction in Mumbai ahead of the film’s release on March 27, Prithviraj shared an interesting revelation about casting Nikhat Khan Hegde in the film.  

Prithviraj disclosed that he was unaware of Nikhat’s connection to Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan when selecting her for the role of Subhadra Ben. “I liked her audition and said I wanted her in the film. My casting director agreed and then casually mentioned, ‘By the way, she’s also Aamir sir’s sister.’ I was surprised and immediately called Aamir sir. Just now, he messaged me asking, ‘Is my sister good in the film?’ I told him, ‘Sir, she’s a lot better than good,’” Prithviraj recounted.  

Nikhat Khan Hegde, known for her roles in 'Pathaan' and 'Mission Mangal', plays a significant character in 'L2: Empuraan'. Prithviraj had earlier unveiled her character poster on social media, writing, “Character No: 14. Presenting Nikhat Khan Hegde as Subhadra Ben in #L2E. The rise of #Empuraan continues! #L2E releasing on 27 March 2025.”  

Directed by Sukumaran, "L2: Empuraan" is the sequel of his 2019 action thriller movie "Lucifer". 

The film's production began in October 2023 in Faridabad and later moved to locations like Shimla, Leh, the UK, the US, Chennai, Gujarat, Hyderabad, the UAE, Mumbai, and Kerala.

The sequel also features Indrajith Sukumaran, Manju Warrier, Saniya Iyappan, Arjun Das, Saikumar, Suraj Venjaramoodu, and Baiju Santhosh.Scheduled to release on March 27, 2025, the film will be available in five languages.

The first instalment, Lucifer, was a massive success, with Mohanlal's portrayal of the enigmatic Stephen Nedumpally winning hearts worldwide.
