Cindy Crawford's son Presley Gerber dies at 27; 911 dispatch audio reveals new details

Presley Gerber, the model and son of supermodel Cindy Crawford and businessman Rande Gerber, has died at the age of 27. New details surrounding his death have emerged through a 911 dispatch recording, which indicates that Gerber suffered cardiac arrest and that an overdose was suspected during the emergency response. 

Gerber died on Sunday morning at a rehabilitation facility in the Los Angeles area, according to records from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner. Authorities have not yet determined his cause or manner of death. An autopsy has been completed, but additional testing is still required before officials can reach a conclusion.

Santa Monica police are investigating the death as a suspected overdose, according to a department release.

911 call reveals cardiac arrest, overdose details

A 911 dispatch recording obtained by Page Six has provided further information about the emergency that preceded Gerber's death. An automated message on the call reportedly identifies both “cardiac arrest” and “overdose”, with the address corresponding to the rehabilitation facility where Gerber was staying.

The call was subsequently escalated by the operator. According to a source who was at the scene, police officers, paramedics and firefighters responded to the facility and remained there for around three hours.

At the time, Gerber was reportedly staying with several other people in a sober house located on the grounds of the rehabilitation centre.

A source told Page Six that Gerber had voluntarily entered a Santa Monica rehabilitation programme just days before his death because “he knew he needed help.”

Cause of death remains pending

Despite the emerging details about the emergency response, officials have not established what caused Gerber's death.

The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner continues to list both the cause and manner of death as pending. The completed autopsy will require further examination and testing before investigators can issue a final determination.

Gerber's death was confirmed by Allie Jenkins, a representative for Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber. The couple, who married in 1998, have asked for privacy as they deal with the loss.

“The family is asking for privacy during this very difficult and painful time,” Jenkins said in an email Sunday night.

Gerber is survived by his parents and his younger sister, model and actor Kaia Gerber.

Presley Gerber had spoken publicly about addiction and mental health

Gerber had previously discussed his struggles with mental health and substance use in public, including through a series of Instagram posts and videos.

He launched a social media series called “Mental Health Mondays”, using the platform to discuss his own experiences and share advice related to wellbeing. In several instalments, he spoke about substances including ketamine and kratom, as well as his experiences in rehabilitation.

In March, Gerber posted a video from Mexico in which he said he intended to undergo ibogaine treatment. The psychedelic substance is being investigated for its potential use in treating opioid addiction, post-traumatic stress disorder and other conditions. Ibogaine can also cause serious and potentially fatal heart complications. It is prohibited in the US under federal law's most restrictive category for illegal and high-risk drugs, although President Donald Trump has directed his administration to consider easing restrictions to encourage research.

Gerber had continued to discuss his personal experiences with treatment and recovery, making his struggles unusually public for someone from a prominent Hollywood family.

He reflected on how his life changed after childhood

Gerber had also spoken about the impact that adulthood, work and changes to his lifestyle had on his wellbeing.

Raised in Malibu, California, he described himself as an athletic child who spent much of his time surfing and in the water. In an Instagram video shared in July 2025, he recalled spending hours in the ocean almost every day while growing up.

He said that routine changed once he began working and became less physically active. According to Gerber, the shift coincided with an increase in medication and a deterioration in his quality of life.

“For me it took 10 years of looking back at my life being like, ‘Well, what changed?’ A lot of the time people would ask like, ‘You were such a happy kid; what happened to you?’” he recalled. “What happened was life happened and I wasn't able to worry about one thing, which was my next meal and then get back in the ocean. Like I had to start making money, I had to start, I got a job.”

His openness about addiction was also recognised by his sister. In an interview with Vogue, Kaia Gerber spoke about her brother's decision to be candid about his experiences.

“My parents for most of our lives were very, very private and didn’t share anything, and now we have this absolute teacher, my brother, who says, ‘I’m gonna be very human for everyone,’” she told the magazine. “There’s only so much you can hide from the world. And trying to put a lid on something just makes the person feel like you’re ashamed of them.”

From Cindy Crawford's son to a modelling career of his own

Gerber entered the fashion industry as a teenager, following in the footsteps of his mother. He signed with IMG and made his runway debut for Moschino when he was 16.

His resemblance to Crawford was often noted, including the beauty mark he inherited from her. In 2018, the mother and son appeared together in a Pepsi Super Bowl commercial that referenced Crawford's well-known 1992 Pepsi campaign.

That year, Gerber also appeared alongside Kaia in a Calvin Klein jeans campaign. He later joined DNA Models.

His agency biography described him as both a model and entrepreneur, drawing inspiration from the careers of his parents, Crawford's work in fashion and Rande Gerber's business ventures.

Rande Gerber has built businesses across restaurants and nightlife and was one of the co-founders of Casamigos, the tequila company established with George Clooney and Mike Meldman. Diageo later acquired the brand in a deal valued at $1 billion.

Presley's own interests extended beyond fashion. His modelling biography described him as an enthusiastic surfer and skater, while photography became another creative outlet.

In a 2016 interview with Vogue around the time of his runway debut, he spoke about his approach to photography and his tendency to notice details that others might overlook.

“I have always been the type of person to stop and take a picture when everybody is just focused on the destination,” he told Vogue in 2016, on the occasion of his runway debut. “I feel like people walk by a countless amount of beauty in the world every day, and I hope that I don’t miss all of it.”
