PM Modi mourns singer S Janaki's death; calls it an 'irreparable loss’

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday condoled the death of legendary playback singer S Janaki, describing her passing as an irreparable loss to the world of music and culture.
S Janaki died at a private hospital in Mysuru on Saturday due to age-related ailments. She was 88.
In a post on X, Modi said Janaki's songs transcended generations and captured every emotion with unmatched grace and versatility.
"The passing of the distinguished playback singer S Janaki Amma is an irreparable loss to the world of music and culture," the Prime Minister said.
He added that her melodies, sung in several Indian languages, would continue to enchant listeners for years to come.
Widely regarded as one of India's greatest playback singers, S Janaki recorded more than 48,000 songs during a career spanning over six decades. She sang primarily in Kannada, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam, while also lending her voice to songs in several other Indian languages, including Hindi, Odia, Urdu, Punjabi and Bengali.
Her work extended beyond films to include albums, television and radio programmes, leaving behind a musical legacy cherished across generations.
S Janaki will be laid to rest with full state honours in Mysuru on Sunday. Before the final rites, the public can pay their last respects as her mortal remains are kept at Maharaja College Grounds in Mysuru from 7.30 am.
The last rites will later be held at a farmhouse in Kaniyanahundi, on the outskirts of Mysuru.
