I don’t regret criticising ‘Kasaba’ – Parvathy says it again

The phrase “say it”, which became widely discussed during the controversy surrounding the film Kasaba, has resurfaced after actor Parvathy Thiruvothu responded to a sarcastic remark on Instagram.

The expression dates back to a public discussion on misogyny in Kasaba, when Parvathy initially criticised the film without directly naming it. Actor-filmmaker Geetu Mohandas had then urged her to explicitly mention the title, prompting the now well-known phrase, “say it” — after which Parvathy ultimately named the film.

On Instagram, Parvathy addressed a user who commented “say it” while she was responding to followers’ questions via her Instagram Stories. In reply, the actor posted a video in which she slowly raised her hand and ultimately showed her middle finger.

She also answered another question related to the earlier controversy. When asked whether she had ever felt she should not have criticised Kasaba at the time, Parvathy responded with a firm “No”.

Meanwhile, the teaser of Geetu Mohandas’ forthcoming film Toxic recently drew criticism online. Some viewers accused the filmmaker of overlooking issues of misogyny in her own project despite having spoken out against it previously. Parvathy, however, has not made any public comment regarding the teaser.
