Is ‘Param Sundari’ a box office bomb? Early numbers say it’s a tough start

Mumbai: Param Sundari, the romantic comedy starring Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor, hit theatres on Friday to much anticipation. The film, which explores an intercultural love story, had generated significant buzz, particularly for the fresh pairing of its lead actors. However, despite the pre-release hype, the film’s opening day collections fell short of expectations.
Early estimates by Sacnilk indicate that Param Sundari earned approximately Rs 7.25 crore on its opening day at the box office. The film enjoyed a solo release, with no major competition on Friday, yet its first-day earnings did not meet the industry's predictions.
Mixed audience turnout across shows
On release day, the film's overall occupancy was recorded at 12.92%. The morning shows saw the lowest turnout at 8.19%, while the afternoon saw a slight increase to 11.45%. The evening shows saw a small boost to 12.27%, with the night shows witnessing the highest turnout at 19.77%.
Despite the gradual increase in occupancy, the numbers remained relatively low, considering the film’s solo release.
A cross-cultural love story
Param Sundari tells the story of an intercultural romance between two characters- Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor, from different parts of India: one from Delhi and the other from Kerala. The film also features Rajeev Khandelwal and Aakash Dahiya in prominent roles.
The film's soundtrack, especially the song Pardesiya, received attention even before its release and was praised by audiences for its appeal.
The box office fate of Param Sundari now depends on the coming days. While the film’s fresh premise and strong performances from the lead actors continue to draw attention, its opening day numbers suggest that it may need word-of-mouth promotion and a strong weekend to keep the momentum going.
