Onam clash: ‘Hridayapoorvam’ crosses ₹50 cr, ‘Lokah’ doubles tally

Mohanlal’s ‘Hridayapoorvam’ and Arun Dominic’s fantasy actioner ‘Lokah Chapter 1 – Chandra’ have emerged as the two biggest winners of this Onam season, keeping Kerala theatres buzzing through the festive holidays.
On Thiruvonam day (August 5, Saturday), both films saw strong footfalls. According to Sacnilk data, ‘Hridayapoorvam’ earned ₹2.85 crore on Friday and ₹0.47 crore on Saturday (forenoon shows). Meanwhile, ‘Lokah Chapter 1 – Chandra’ pulled in a much larger haul of ₹7.8 crore on Friday and ₹1.42 crore on Saturday morning.
The scale of Chandra’s success goes beyond Kerala. The Malayalam version collected ₹42.5 crore in its first week, while the Tamil (₹5.05 crore) and Telugu (₹7.15 crore) dubs added a significant boost. With its Hindi release on September 4, trade trackers expect the second weekend to be even bigger. So far, Lokah Chapter 1 – Chandra has amassed ₹63.92 crore in India and over ₹100 crore worldwide.
Mohanlal’s ‘Hridayapoorvam’ may be the runner-up in the Onam race, but it has its own milestones. The Sathyan Anthikad directorial has notched up ₹23.32 crore net in India and has crossed ₹50 crore globally by Friday afternoon. Importantly, this marks Mohanlal’s third consecutive film to gross ₹50 crore worldwide — a first for any Mollywood star.
In short, Onam 2025 has gifted Malayalam cinema a double celebration: Lokah Chapter 1 – Chandra rewriting box office records, and Mohanlal scripting history with a hat-trick of global blockbusters.
