Noted Mappilapattu singer Ramla Beegum passes away

Kozhikode: Noted Mappilapattu singer Ramla Beegum passed away at her residence in Paroppadi here on Wednesday. She was 85. 

Beegum was also known for her Kadhaprasangam (storytelling) performance of stories like ‘Odayil Ninnu’, ‘Shaakuntalam’, ‘Nalini’, and many other Islamic stories.

She was born to Alappuzha couple Hussain Yusuf Yamana and Mariyam Beevi. She made her baby step as an artiste when she was at the age of seven. She had been part of the Azad Music Troupe and sang Hindi songs.
