Actor Nora Fatehi is set to appear before the National Commission for Women (NCW) on Thursday after being summoned in connection with the controversy surrounding the song Sarke Chunar.

The Commission is looking into allegations related to the alleged indecent portrayal of women in the song, which is part of the film KD The Devil.

According to the NCW, Fatehi is expected to appear before the panel at 11:30 am in response to the summons issued to her.

“The National Commission for Women has scheduled a hearing in connection with the matter pertaining to the song Sarke Chunar. Actor Nora Fatehi, who has been summoned in this regard, will appear before the Commission tomorrow at 11:30 am,” the Commission said in a statement.

Nora Fatehi earlier distanced herself from Hindi version

Earlier, Fatehi had clarified that she was associated only with the Kannada version of the song and claimed that her consent had not been taken for the Hindi version.

The actor had also missed an earlier hearing before the Commission, informing authorities that she was abroad and requesting another date.

Last month, actor Sanjay Dutt appeared before the NCW over the same issue. During the hearing chaired by NCW chief Vijaya Rahatkar, concerns were reportedly raised regarding alleged vulgarity and the portrayal of women in the song.

The Commission is understood to have questioned issues relating to intent, awareness and accountability connected to the track.

Dutt later submitted a written apology and expressed regret for any “unintended” impact the song may have had on society.

As part of a corrective initiative, he also committed to sponsoring the education of 50 tribal girl children in support of social welfare and women’s empowerment.

Hindi version sparked backlash online

The Hindi version of Sarke Chunar was released on YouTube on March 15 and soon faced criticism over lyrics that many described as sexually explicit.

Following public backlash, the makers removed the Hindi version from YouTube. However, the song continued circulating across multiple online platforms.

The lyricist, singer and director associated with the song had also issued apologies after the controversy erupted.

‘KD The Devil’ is originally a Kannada-language film and has been dubbed into four languages, including Hindi.
