Nayanthara vs Dhanush: #IStandWithDhanush trends amid BTS clip controversy

The internet is buzzing with heated debates after Tamil cinema’s Lady Superstar, Nayanthara, openly criticised Dhanush in an emotional letter. The actress accused Dhanush of not granting her a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to use a behind-the-scenes (BTS) clip from their hit film 'Naanum Rowdy Dhaan'.

The clip, lasting just three seconds and widely available online, sparked controversy when Dhanush sued her for Rs10 crores over its inclusion in a Netflix documentary about her wedding.  

Nayanthara calls out Dhanush 

Nayanthara’s letter revealed her disappointment with Dhanush, who produced the 2015 blockbuster. She alleged that despite her repeated requests for permission, he not only ignored her but also filed a legal notice demanding the removal of the clip from the documentary trailer. The move left Nayanthara shocked, as the footage is already accessible to the public on social media.  

Actors like Parvathy Thiruvothu, Shruti Haasan, Nazriya Nazim, Dia Mirza, and Shilpa Rao voiced their support for Nayanthara. Many praised her for standing up and called out the lawsuit as unnecessary.

While some fans supported Nayanthara, many others backed Dhanush, accusing the actress of hypocrisy. Critics pointed out that Nayanthara profited from her wedding documentary but demanded Dhanush’s footage for free.

The hashtag #IStandByDhanush trended on social media, with fans defending the actor’s legal stance.  

Vignesh Sivan joins the fray

Adding fuel to the fire, Nayanthara’s husband and filmmaker Vignesh Sivan took to Instagram to share the controversial clip.

He sarcastically labeled it “the Rs 10 crores clip” and encouraged fans to watch it online for free. He also posted the legal notice sent by Dhanush’s team, highlighting the hefty Rs10 crores demand.  

Amid the uproar, Dhanush has stayed silent.
