Did Yash really talk Nayanthara out of her ‘no-promotions’ rule or is there more to it?

Nayanthara's appearance at the trailer launch of Yash's ‘Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-ups’ has brought attention less for who showed up.
The actress is known for staying away from promotional events, interviews, and pre-release functions, a pattern that has held for roughly a decade. Her presence in Bengaluru, dressed in an orange sari, broke that pattern and she addressed it directly.

"It's just that I'm not very good at it," her own explanation
Speaking at the event, Nayanthara explained her general reluctance toward promotions in her own words. According to a Moneycontrol report, she clarified that her absence from such events isn't about withholding support from her films.
Asked why she stays away, she said ‘I'm not very good at it.’ She said this appearance was different, crediting one factor- a personal call from Yash.

This isn't the first time she's made an exception
This isn't the only recent instance of Nayanthara stepping outside her usual approach. She also appeared during the promotional campaign for Chiranjeevi's "Mana Shankara Vara Prasad Garu," a film in which she wasn't the lead.
Her professional slate remains active regardless she is currently shooting ‘SVC63’ opposite Salman Khan under director Vamsi Paidipally, and has the romance drama ‘Hi’ opposite Kavin Raj coming up, a film she is also producing.
Fans are split over her sudden appearance
Reactions to her appearance were mixed on X. Some framed it as a reaffirmation of her star status, with one user writing that critics could say what they wanted but "Thalaivi" still "owns the crown."
Others were more critical, one Tamil-language comment questioned why she hadn't shown the same willingness to promote "Hi," the film she co-stars in with Kavin Raj, and suggested her Bengaluru appearance was tied more to the project she is producing than to supporting a co-star.

A separate comment dismissed her current box-office pull, and another was outright hostile, calling her irrelevant for staying away from her own film's promotions in the past.
Older Reddit discussions on the same subject point to a different explanation for her general media absence, a reported "no promotion" clause said to stem from intense public backlash she faced years earlier over a relationship with a married co-star.
That version of events, circulated by users rather than confirmed by Nayanthara herself, credits her reluctance to personal history rather than simple discomfort with events.
What's really behind the silence?
Nayanthara's own explanation is that she simply isn't comfortable with promotional appearances. Her recent choices showing up for Yash, for Chiranjeevi, but facing criticism for staying quiet on "Hi" leave room for more than one reading.
Is this a personal boundary she's entitled to set on her own terms, or a selective calculation about which appearances are worth making?
