'Shanmugam and Lalitha are on Instagram now': ‘Thudarum’ promotion takes unique turn

The first song from the much-awaited Mohanlal-Shobana starrer 'Thudarum', 'Kanmanipoove', sung by M G Sreekumar, was released on Wednesday, and fans have embraced it with open arms. But what’s caught everyone’s attention is the film’s out-of-the-box promotional strategy.
Director Tharun Moorthy and his team have taken an unconventional approach to promote the film—by creating Instagram accounts for the lead characters, played by Mohanlal and Shobana.
Announcing this on social media, Tharun Moorthy wrote, “Chettan and Chechi trending on Instagram.” He further shared on Facebook, “Shanmugam and Lalitha are on Instagram now!”
Mohanlal’s character, Shanmugham, can be found on Instagram under the handle Driver Shanmukham, with a simple yet fitting bio: Driver @ Taxi Stand. Meanwhile, Shobana’s character, Lalitha, has her own account under the ID Lalitha Shanmukham, with the bio: Pavithram Mills Owner. Both profiles are packed with posts related to the newly released song.
A grand reunion
Beyond the social media buzz, 'Thudarum' holds a special place in cinema history as Mohanlal’s 360th film. What’s even more exciting is that this film marks the return of the iconic Mohanlal-Shobana duo after a long gap of 15 years.
The last time they appeared together on screen was in 'Sagar Alias Jackie' (2009), directed by Amal Neerad. However, their last pairing in a full-fledged romantic role was way back in 2004’s 'Mambazhakalam', directed by Joshi. Fans have been eagerly waiting for this reunion, and Thudarum promises to be a nostalgic treat.
The team behind ‘Thudarum’
'Thudarum' is backed by a strong creative team. The story is penned by K R Sunil, with the screenplay and dialogues written by Tharun Moorthy and Sunil. The film is presented by Rajputra Visual Media and produced by M Ranjith.
Other key members of the team include:
Cinematography: Shajikumar. Editing: Nishad Yusuf. Music: Shafiq V.B.
