Spoiler alert: This recap reveals key plot details from Season 1 of ‘Wednesday’.

Episode 1: Wednesday's child is full of woe

After avenging her brother Pugsley by unleashing piranhas on his bullies, Wednesday Addams is expelled and sent by her parents, Gomez and Morticia, to Nevermore Academy. The school is a refuge for “outcasts” with supernatural abilities. While adjusting to her new surroundings, she crosses paths with Bianca, duels in fencing class, and forms a reluctant bond with her colourful roommate Enid. Meanwhile, a local hiker is killed by a mysterious creature, and Wednesday has a chilling vision of a fellow student, Rowan, dying. Though Rowan tries to kill her in the woods, he’s ultimately slain by the very creature.

Episode 2: Woe is the loneliest number

Rowan appears to be alive, but Wednesday suspects something is off. As she delves deeper into the strange events surrounding Nevermore, Principal Weems uses shapeshifting to conceal the truth. Wednesday uncovers a secret society and wins a student tournament with Enid's help. She also discovers a hidden library that could hold answers to the dark visions plaguing her.

Episode 3: Friend or woe

Held captive by the elite student society, Wednesday escapes with a valuable book. Her visions lead her to a painting of a young girl—an ancestor who was once persecuted during the town's dark past. During a town ceremony, Wednesday disrupts the event by destroying a statue, drawing ire from the principal. The mystery deepens when police find a camera near a crime scene that may have captured the elusive monster.

Episode 4: Woe what a night

Wednesday and Thing break into the morgue to investigate the murder victims. Her suspicion falls on Xavier, whose drawings resemble the monster. She follows him to a cave, retrieves a claw, and hands it to the sheriff for testing. While Wednesday attends the school dance with Tyler, her sidekick Eugene is attacked in the forest by the creature.

Episode 5: You reap what you woe

During Parents’ Weekend, the Addams family reunion turns dark as Wednesday confronts her parents about a decades-old murder. Sheriff Galpin arrests Gomez, but Morticia confesses to the crime, which is eventually linked to a plot to poison Nevermore. The principal admits she impersonated Rowan to cover up his death, trying to protect the school’s reputation.

Episode 6: Quid pro woe

Attempting to summon her ancestor Goody, Wednesday receives cryptic clues about the Gates family. Alongside Tyler and Enid, she discovers the monster’s victims in the basement of the abandoned Gates mansion. Laurel Gates, long believed dead, may be alive and controlling the Hyde. The mayor is run over after leaving the mansion, sparking more suspicion. When Wednesday returns with authorities, the basement is mysteriously empty.

Episode 7: If you don't woe me by now

Uncle Fester pays Wednesday a surprise visit and identifies the creature as a Hyde—monsters that always have a master. Xavier becomes a prime suspect, especially after being seen with Wednesday’s therapist Dr Kinbott. However, after a vision during a kiss, Wednesday realises Tyler is the Hyde. Dr Kinbott is later found dead, and Thing is nearly killed during a break-in.

Episode 8: A murder of woe

Wednesday and her classmates capture Tyler to force a confession. Though she’s expelled, the pieces fall into place when Eugene confirms that Ms Thornhill is the cloaked figure from the cave. Thornhill, revealed as Laurel Gates, uses Tyler to kill and resurrect the vengeful Joseph Crackstone. A final battle ensues at Nevermore: Enid transforms into a werewolf to stop Tyler, while Wednesday defeats Crackstone with Bianca’s help. Laurel is apprehended, and Tyler is detained. With Nevermore closed for the semester, Wednesday leaves the school—only to receive an ominous text from an anonymous sender.

As Season 2 looms, the stakes are higher, the enemies are darker, and Wednesday is more determined than ever.
