Minister Saji Cheriyan denies allegations, says Renjith has no say in state film awards

Alappuzha: Culture minister Saji Cheriyan said that the announced state film awards will not be reviewed in the wake of recent controversy involving Kerala State Chalachitra Academy (KSCA) chairman director Ranjith. Director Vinayan had alleged that Ranjith influenced the award jury. The minister denied the allegations and said Renjith has no role in awards whatsoever.
Cheriyan called the allegations baseless and maintained that awards were given to those deserving it. The minister added that if anyone has evidence against this, they should proceed legally.
“Three film awards have been announced since this government came to power and not a single complaint has been raised. Even the opposition have been singing praises of these awards. Jury is the key here and it is completely impartial. It consists of renowned individuals. Renjith is not a member of the jury, neither did he pick nor speak to the jury,” Cheriyan said.
“Jurors are selected via due procedure. Renjith is a respected person in the Kerala film industry. One should commend his achievements and the smooth functioning of the KSCA under his championship,” the minister added.
