Chennai: Actress Manju Warrier on Saturday joined countless admirers across Kerala and Tamil Nadu in remembering legendary filmmaker Sreenivasan, describing him as an artist whose work would transcend time in more ways than one.

In a deeply emotional tribute posted on her Instagram page in Malayalam, Manju Warrier reflected on the enduring imprint left by the iconic actor, screenwriter and director, who passed away in the early hours of Saturday. She wrote that leaving behind a timeless legacy was the most beautiful gift an artist could offer the world, and noted that “Sreeniyettan had done it in writing, acting and direction”.

In that sense, she observed, the legendary filmmaker would “survive time, not just in one but many ways”.

Recalling her personal association with him, the actress said she shared many memories with Sreenivasan and remarked that for the first time, the man who would always conclude conversations with a hearty laugh had brought her to tears.

Bidding him farewell, Manju Warrier found solace in the belief that only his physical form had departed, while his name and work would continue to live on in many forms for a long time to come.

Sreenivasan, regarded as one of the defining figures of Malayalam cinema, passed away at the Tripunithura Taluk Hospital, where he was undergoing treatment for age-related ailments. He was 69.

He is survived by his wife Vimala and sons Vineeth Sreenivasan—an acclaimed director, actor and singer—and Dhyan Sreenivasan, a popular actor.

Over a distinguished career spanning nearly five decades, Sreenivasan reshaped Malayalam cinema with his sharp humour, social satire and profoundly human storytelling. A performer of remarkable range, he appeared in close to 225 films, excelling equally as a comedian and a leading actor, often portraying the common man with rare honesty and depth.
