Mammootty's Padma Bhushan recognition unfolds before an applauding son Dulquer Salmaan | VIDEO

Veteran Malayalam actor Mammootty received the Padma Bhushan from President Droupadi Murmu at a ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Tuesday.

The Padma Bhushan, announced earlier this year as part of the Padma Awards, was formally conferred on the actor during the ceremony in New Delhi.

Mammootty had arrived in the capital with his family a day before the event. Visuals from the ceremony showed his son, actor Dulquer Salmaan, applauding from the audience as Mammootty received the honour.

Before approaching the President, Mammootty greeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and Union Home Minister Amit Shah with folded hands.

Industry colleagues present

Among those present at the ceremony was S George, producer and a long-time associate of Mammootty. Producer Anto Joseph also attended the event.

The Padma Bhushan is India's third-highest civilian award and is conferred in recognition of distinguished service of a high order across various fields.

Mammootty, one of Indian cinema's most celebrated actors, is also known for his involvement in various social causes and charitable initiatives.
