Mammootty fans rejoice: Kalamkaval teaser to premiere with Lokah

Ahead of the release of Lokah Chapter: 1 Chandra, fans can expect to see Mammootty back on the big screen, not in the Dulquer Salmaan-produced superhero film itself, but in the official teaser of his upcoming project Kalamkaval.
Mammootty revealed on X that the teaser for Kalamkaval will hit theaters alongside Lokah Chapter: 1 Chandra, the highly anticipated Malayalam superhero film. His post quickly drew praise from fans, who said they were eager to watch the teaser on the big screen.
The poster for Kalamkaval, featuring Mammootty as Cyanide Mohan aka Mohan Kumar in an intense new avatar, has already fueled speculation about the film’s storyline. Known for balancing mass entertainers with performance-driven roles, Mammootty is expected to headline a gritty, character-driven narrative. The actor last year delivered critical and box-office hits, including Kaathal – The Core and Turbo, further raising anticipation for his new project.
Directed by first-time filmmaker Jithin K. Jose, Kalamkaval is billed as a mix of action and drama, with visuals and a tagline hinting at a gripping storyline. The film, starring Mammootty in the lead, is slated for release later this year.
Meanwhile, Lokah Chapter: 1 Chandra is scheduled to release in theaters on Aug. 28, 2025. Touted as the start of a Malayalam superhero cinematic universe, the film stars Kalyani Priyadarshan and Naslen, along with Arun Kurian, Chandu Salimkumar, Vijayaraghavan and others in supporting roles.
Directed by Dominic Arun, the film draws on local folklore, mythology and culture to create an indigenous superhero world. Dulquer Salmaan, who is producing Lokah as his seventh venture under Wayfarer Films, has said the project is designed as the first chapter in a larger cinematic universe.
Advance booking for Lokah has already opened, with strong buzz reported across Kerala and Gulf markets, where Malayalam cinema traditionally has a large audience.
