‘Mammootty in and as Oommen Chandy’; Late Kerala CM’s son shares film project dream

Congress MLA and son of late Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, Chandy Oommen, has expressed interest in making a film based on his father’s life and public journey. He shared the idea during a conversation with filmmaker and actor Nadirshah, outlining plans to develop a biographical project centred on the former leader.
Chandy Oommen said he is considering a film titled “Oommen Chandy”, which would trace his father’s life and political journey. He also noted that the project is intended to support ongoing charitable activities linked to a foundation in his father’s name, including fundraising efforts.
He added that the aim is to document and preserve Oommen Chandy’s legacy.
When asked who should portray Oommen Chandy on screen, Chandy Oommen did not respond immediately. The question was then rephrased to ask which actor he felt would be suitable for the role, following which he named veteran actor Mammootty.
Chandy Oommen said the proposed film is also connected to ensuring that his father’s life journey is recorded in public memory and presented in a way that reflects his political and social work.
The conversation also touched on whether Chandy Oommen would consider acting. He said he watches films and could explore acting, including negative roles, if opportunities arise. He added that he would respond if approached for roles, to which Nadirshah remarked that he should not back out when called.
