‘People view it as a piece of entertainment...’: Mamitha’s response to trolls

Actor Mamitha Baiju’s spontaneous rendition of the song “Naalai Naalai endru Indrai ilakathae..” from Azhagiya Tamizh Magan during the Jana Nayagan audio launch became an unexpected viral moment on social media. What was intended as a heartfelt tribute to Vijay soon turned into a popular source of memes, with users playfully poking fun at her singing. The clip continues to trend widely across reels and short-video platforms.

Addressing the attention for the first time, Mamitha responded with good humour. Speaking to reporters after a special screening of With Love, starring Abishan Jeevinth and Anaswara Rajan, she said she finds the memes entertaining rather than upsetting. She explained that audiences are consuming the moment purely for fun, and she too sees it in the same light, adding that she is enjoying the reactions.

“People see it purely as entertainment, and I feel the same way. It’s all in good fun,” Mamitha said.

Her Premalu co-star Sangeeth Prathap recently echoed this sentiment, stating that online trolling does not bother her.

In Jana Nayagan, directed by H Vinoth, Mamitha plays Vijay’s daughter and shares significant screen time with him. The actor grew emotional during both the audio launch in Malaysia and the final day of filming, as the film is expected to be Vijay’s last before entering politics.
