Malayali stars shine at Tamil Nadu State Film Awards 2016–2022: Five win Best Actress titles

Chennai: Malayali talent dominated the Tamil Nadu State Film Awards for films released between 2016 and 2022, as the state government announced the long-awaited winners. Across multiple categories, actors from Kerala made a remarkable mark, particularly in the Best Actress segment.

Five Malayali actresses were honoured with the Best Actress awards over different years: Manju Warrier (Asuran), Keerthy Suresh (Paambhu Sattai), Nayanthara (Aramm), Aparna Balamurali (Soorarai Pottru) and Lijomol Jose (Jai Bhim).

Malayali actor Rahman was recognised as Best Villain, while veteran actress Urvashi won Best Comedian. In the music categories, Vaikom Vijayalakshmi and Varsha Ranjith were awarded Best Playback Singers, highlighting the contribution of Malayali artistes beyond acting.
