Lyricist GK Pallath passes away

Thrissur: G K Pallath, who penned songs for around 60 plays and 10 films, passed away. He was 82.
He is the son of Narayanan Nair and Amminiamma. Pallath had shown an interest in literature since his childhood. He started writing poems in the seventh grade and had his poems published in periodicals. He wrote his first song for the Communist Party plenum held in Thrissur in 1958. The song 'Rakthathirakal Neenthivarum', was arranged by Das Kottapuram and sung by K S George and Sulochana.
He entered the arts field by writing songs for amateur dramas and ballets. He wrote the screenplay for amateur dramas like 'Dhoorth Puthri' and 'Kudumba Vilakku'. With the success of these dramas, he turned to the professional front.
Pallath received an opportunity to worl in the movie ‘Padasaram’ through his friend and actor T G Ravi. The song composed by G Devarajan, ‘Kaattu Vannu’, in this film became an instant classic. He went on to pen lyrics for several popular songs during that time. Apart from film songs, G K Pallath wrote lyrics for several album songs.
The funeral will take place on Monday at 4 p.m. in Paramekkavu Shanti Ghat. Wife: N Rajalekshmi; Children: Nayana, Suhas, and Radhika.
