Veteran actor Madhu turns 88; celebrations to be low-key

Thiruvananthapuram: Actor Madhu, one of the senior-most actors in the Malayalam film industry, is celebrating his 88th birthday on Thursday.
Madhavan Nair, who is fondly called Madhu, after coming to Malayalam movies was born on September 23, 1933, at Gourishapattom, Thiruvananthapuram. His father R Parameswaran Pillai was a mayor and his mother Kamalamma was a housewife.
'His birthdays are celebrated modestly at house in the presence of close relatives and friends. We prepare a grand lunch and also visit temples,' said his daughter Uma. She added that he doesn’t like celebrating his birthday in a grand way.
Madhu completed post-graduation in Hindi from Banaras Hindu University and worked in Hindu college at Nagercoil. Putting an end to his teaching career, he joined the School of Drama in Delhi. His debut movie is 'Ninamaninja Kalpadukal' in 1959. He worked in more than 500 movies as an actor and also excelled in the roles of producer, director and studio owner.
Madhu's wife Jayalakshmi passed away on January 11, 2014. The actor rarely goes out of his house in Kannammoola after the Covid outbreak.
