Madras HC rejects plea seeking to halt release of ‘Maamannan’

Chennai: The Madras High Court on Thursday rejected a plea seeking to halt the release of Mari Selvaraj’s ‘Maamannan’, featuring a star-studded cast including Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, Fahadh Faasil, Vadivelu, and Keerthy Suresh in lead roles.

The petition was filed by Palayamkotta native Manikantan alleging that the release of the film, which is based on caste issue, could cause law and order disturbances. 

However, rejecting the plea, Justice K Kumaresh Babu asked how can the court halt the release of a movie that received clean chit from the censor board.

“Maamannan is only a movie. Viewers will watch and forget it. Everyone has the right to express their opinion,” court said. 

The film, which hit the theatres on June 29, is distributed in Kerala by HR Pictures. Sony Music has secured the music rights for the film. The cinematography is handled by Theni Eswar, known for his exceptional work. 

Notably, Udayanidhi, who ventured into politics as Tamil Nadu's Youth Welfare and Sports Development Minister, announced that "Maamannan" would mark his final film appearance.
