‘They hate my father because he is...’: Madhav Suresh defends Suresh Gopi against online hate

Actor Madhav Suresh, son of Union Minister and veteran actor Suresh Gopi, has opened up about the online hate he receives due to his father’s political affiliation.

In a candid interview with a private YouTube channel, Madhav revealed that much of the trolling he faces stems from his father’s role as a BJP minister.

“A lot of people here don't like that my father is a BJP minister. That’s the most hate I get. My father is very opinionated and does his research before presenting his views. He stands by them, even if he gets trolled. That’s because he has the spine for it. And those who hate him may don’t,” Madhav said.

Despite the online criticism, Madhav maintains that he remains focused on his personal growth. “I’m focused on what I’m learning and doing. I don’t care about trolls or negativity,” he added.

On financial independence

Madhav also addressed perceptions that he relies on his father’s wealth. He clarified that he recently purchased a vehicle using a loan, not family money.

“People asked if my father or I bought the car. It would’ve been better if it was my own money, they said. Well, it was. I took a loan. I have to work and repay it. What my father has saved is for his retirement or my sisters’ weddings. If I fail, that’s a fallback—but I want to build myself,” he said.

On comparisons with Sandeep Pradeep

Madhav also responded to recent social media comparisons with Padakkalam actor Sandeep Pradeep, which claimed Madhav would’ve been better suited for the lead role.

“I saw a couple of posts saying the character in Padakkalam would’ve worked better with me. Personally, I felt that was disrespectful to Sandeep’s hard work. I even shared a post to highlight this mindset, but then people accused me of doing PR. I genuinely liked Sandeep’s performance. Praise or criticise—but don’t compare,” he said.

Madhav Suresh is currently preparing for the release of Janaki vs State of Kerala, where he stars alongside his father Suresh Gopi. The film also features Anupama Parameswaran in the lead role, marking her return to Malayalam cinema. Directed by Praveen Narayanan and produced by J Phanindra Kumar under the Cosmos Entertainment banner in association with Karthik Creations, the film also stars Divya Pillai and Shruti Ramachandran in key roles.
