In a candid chat with GQ India, the actor shared the simple yet effective lifestyle choices that help him maintain his radiant skin and fit physique — and no, it doesn’t involve any fillers or cosmetic procedures.   

The power of sunlight and simplicity

While most skincare advice warns against too much sun exposure, Madhavan begs to differ. A self-confessed fan of "early morning sunshine”, he credits the sun for tightening his skin and keeping wrinkles at bay. “I play golf in the early morning sun. I get tanned, yes, but it helps with skin tightening and keeping it wrinkle-free; the sun suits me,” he shared.

Rather than relying on invasive treatments, Madhavan swears by a natural combination: coconut oil, coconut water, fresh vegetarian food and a dose of sunshine. These are his go-to essentials for staying fresh-faced well into his 50s.

Fresh food over fads

The actor, who celebrated his 55th birthday on June 1, also believes in keeping his diet wholesome and grounded. He grew up in a household without a refrigerator — a detail that shaped his lifelong habit of eating only freshly prepared food. “We never had a fridge when I was young, so every meal had to be made fresh. That habit stuck,” he said.

Even on film sets, he prefers homemade meals and travels with his personal chef to ensure his food stays true to his roots — think simple dishes like dal, sabzi and rice, just like his mother used to make.

“I don’t get the fuss around rice,” Madhavan said, brushing off diet trends. “My grandparents lived into their 90s eating rice three times a day.” His approach is intuitive: he eats only when hungry, avoids overindulgence in fried foods and alcohol and sticks to comforting, seasonal meals that work for his body.

Fitness without extremes

Madhavan’s health routine isn’t about extremes or rigid discipline. He practices intermittent fasting, enjoys long morning walks and listens closely to what his body needs. The result? A toned physique, clear skin and a calm, balanced outlook on health and ageing.
