‘Kurup’ grosses Rs 6 crore on Day 1

Kochi: Dulquer Salman starrer ‘Kurup’ enthralled the theatres as the first Malayalam movie release after the Covid lockdown. The movie was released across 505 theatres and multiplexes in Kerala on Friday. More than 2000 screenings were held on the first day alone. The Film Exhibitors United Organisation of Kerala (FEUOK) claims that the movie garnered Rs 6 crores on the first day alone. Celebrations were organised by FEUOK and Dulquer Salmaan’s Fans Association. The tickets for the first three days are completely sold out in most theatres. 

Explanation sought in petition seeking ban on screening of movie

Kerala HC directed that both the state and central government must be given notice in the petition filed by Edappally native Advocate Sebin Thomas seeking a ban on the screening of the movie ‘Kurup’, a movie revolving around the life of long-wanted Indian fugitive Sukumara Kurup. 

The petition filed stated that the movie is a violation of the right to privacy of Sukumara Kurup. The division bench headed by Chief Justice S Manikumar and Justice Shaji P Chaly is considering the petition.
