Keerthy calls Basil a ‘Weekly Star’; Sheela says he’s the only actor she ever wanted to meet | WATCH

Legendary Malayalam actor Sheela gave a heartfelt compliment to actor-director Basil Joseph at the JFW Movie Awards, where he was honoured with the ‘Man of the Year’ award in the Malayalam category. The veteran star described Basil as the only actor she had ever truly wished to meet in her lifetime.

Taking the stage to present the award, Sheela reminisced about her admiration for Basil’s work. “Basil Joseph is now an integral part of Malayalam cinema. He is like a beloved child in every household. People consider him one of their own. I have watched every one of his films — from his debut to Ponman — more than once,” she said.

Sheela went on to describe a specific scene from one of Basil’s earlier films that left a lasting impression. “There’s a scene in Guruvayoor Ambalanadayil where Prithviraj and Basil are sitting and drinking together. My God, what a performance! I rewatched it several times. I hope he continues acting in many more films. When he gets older, maybe he can move into direction,” she added, drawing laughs from the audience.

Visibly moved by Sheela’s words, Basil Joseph expressed his deep gratitude. “I had planned to say many things after receiving this award, but after hearing Sheela ma’am’s words, I’ve forgotten everything. I am incredibly happy,” he said. Sheela, not done yet, interjected once more: “I’ve never felt the desire to meet an actor in person before. Basil is the first.”

Responding with humility, Basil said, “There was no need for someone like Sheela ma’am to say such things about me. But I’m thrilled beyond words.”

Actor Keerthy Suresh also joined in praising the multi-talented Basil Joseph, known for his successful work as both a director and actor. “Everything Basil touches turns to gold. With every film he releases, actors like us struggle to keep up — he’s practically a weekly star now, with a new film out every week!” she joked.

She went on to name Guruvayoor Ambalanadayil as her personal favourite among his performances, and Minnal Murali as her top pick from his directorial ventures. “May he continue to deliver many more blockbusters,” she wished.

The evening stood as a testament to Basil Joseph’s rising stature in Malayalam cinema, as the warmth and admiration of industry veterans and peers alike underscored his remarkable journey thus far.
