Hyderabad: During the pre-release function of They Call Him OG, actor-politician and Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan stunned the crowd by storming the stage, wielding a katana, a theatrical move that almost ended in disaster as the blade narrowly missed hitting his own bodyguard.

The moment, captured on camera, quickly went viral on social media, triggering a wave of reactions ranging from concern to admiration.

"That sword just a mm away! Thank god!" wrote one user on X, highlighting how close the blade came to causing injury.

Another wrote, “Katana is really a no joke ,dude .it's powerful ,one strike and you are done.”

The grand event, held at Hyderabad’s LB Stadium, was initially marred by poor organisation, a three-hour delay, and heavy rain. Fans, however, stayed put, braving the weather to catch a glimpse of their idol.

“‘They Call Him OG’ event was a disaster delayed 3 hrs despite rain warnings, no proper trailer & total negligence. If not for Pawan Kalyan stepping in, it would’ve been a complete washout,” said another post.

Have you seen a Deputy CM walk with a sword?

Speaking to the roaring crowd, Pawan Kalyan joked about the spectacle, acknowledging the momentary escape from his political persona.

“Have you ever wondered or seen a Deputy CM walk around with a sword? Since it’s a movie, I can walk,” he said, referencing his on-screen character.

Directed by Sujeeth, They Call Him OG stars Pawan Kalyan in a fierce avatar and marks Emraan Hashmi’s Tollywood debut as the lead antagonist. The film also features Priyanka Mohan, Arjun Das, Prakash Raj, Sriya Reddy, Subhalekha Sudhakar, and Sudev Nair in key roles.

Produced by DVV Entertainment, the film is slated for a September 25 theatrical release in multiple languages.
