Mumbai: Heartfelt tributes have begun pouring in from across the film industry following the passing of veteran actor Satish Shah on Saturday.

Among the first to express grief was actor Johny Lever, a longtime friend and co-star. Taking to X, Lever wrote, “Feeling extremely sad to share that we’ve lost a great artist & my dearest friend of over 40 years. It’s hard to believe—I had spoken to him just two days ago. Satish Bhai, you will truly be missed. Your immense contribution to film and television will never be forgotten.”

The comedian and character actor, known for his impeccable timing and memorable roles on both television and the big screen, reportedly passed away while undergoing treatment at a Mumbai hospital.

Satish Shah’s passing marks the end of an era in Indian comedy. From his cult classic Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro (1983) to the iconic sitcom Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi (1984) and the much-loved Sarabhai vs Sarabhai (2004), Shah’s characters brought laughter and warmth to generations of audiences. He also left his mark in major Bollywood hits like Kal Ho Naa Ho, Main Hoon Na, Fanaa, and Om Shanti Om.
