‘Janaki is like the girl next door’: Anupama Parameswaran

After a row over its title, the Malayalam film Janaki V v/s State of Kerala finally hit theatres worldwide on July 17.
The film features an ensemble cast including Suresh Gopi, Anupama Parameswaran, and Shruti Ramachandran.
Directed by Praveen Narayanan, the film narrates the tumultuous journey of a rape survivor. Notably, its release was postponed earlier after certain sections raised objections over the film’s title—its reference to a Hindu deity.
After prolonged discussions, the title was tweaked, and it was decided to mute the word in a couple of scenes.
As part of the film’s promotions, in a conversation with The Cue Studio, lead actor Anupama Parameswaran said, “Janaki is like the girl next door. A normal girl like the many you come across.”
She added, “The film showcases the abnormal things that happen in her life—the tumultuous journey—which I am sure the audience will be able to empathise with.”
In the same conversation, actor Shruti Ramachandran also shared her views and spoke about the support she received from Suresh Gopi. Meanwhile, Madhav Suresh talked about how his father was a firebrand on screen, portraying Advocate David Abel Donovan.
Meanwhile, the score by Ghibran is earning widespread praise. Though reviews have been mixed, the film continues to draw audiences.
