Franco himself appeared to anticipate the speculation, saying that people might think he was behaving strangely but insisting that there was no act involved.

“I maybe seem crazy, like, why? What’s going on? What’s the gimmick? No. This is real,” he said.

Often dressed in the same blue T-shirt, with the name “Bruce Robins” and a taped-on pause symbol visible on his clothing, the actor spoke about feeling watched and warned that something might happen to him.
