Thalaivar is back, and Muthuvel Pandian is clearly not done yet. The trailer of ‘Jailer 2’ has dropped, bringing Rajinikanth back as the retired jailer for another high-voltage action entertainer. Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, the sequel appears to take everything that worked in the first film and turn the scale several notches higher.

‘Jailer 2’ brings Thalaivar Rajinikanth back for another action-packed outing.

Rajinikanth once again steps into the shoes of Muthuvel Pandian, the seemingly calm retired jailer whose no-nonsense attitude hides a much more dangerous side. This time, however, the trouble looks bigger, the enemies appear tougher and the action promises to be even more explosive.

The sequel also packs a formidable new cast. SJ Suryah, Mithun Chakraborty, Vidya Balan, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Anna Rajan and Jatin Sarna have joined the franchise, adding fresh faces to the world of ‘Jailer’.

Several familiar faces from the first film are also returning. Mohanlal, Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu, Mirnaa and Rithvik are reprising their roles, while Nelson is back in the director’s chair.

Mohanlal appears in a scene from the Rajinikanth-starrer ‘Jailer 2’.

The first ‘Jailer’ revolved around Muthuvel Pandian, a retired jailer whose peaceful life was disrupted when his son went missing. The 2023 film turned into a major box-office success, collecting Rs 348.55 crore nett in India and Rs 604.50 crore gross worldwide, according to Sacnilk.

Are the big cameos happening?

The sequel has also generated considerable buzz around its reported cameo appearances. Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar, Jackie Shroff, Vijay Sethupathi and Hrithik Roshan have all been linked to the film in various reports. Shah Rukh Khan's name has also surfaced in casting speculation.

However, none of these reported appearances have been officially confirmed by the makers yet.

Behind the scenes, Nelson has brought back several key members of the original team. Anirudh returns as the composer, while R Nirmal handles editing and Vijay Kartik Kannan serves as cinematographer. DRK Kiran is the art director, with Pallavi Singh and Muthul Hafeez returning as costume designers. Stunt choreographer Chethan D'Souza is a new addition to the technical crew.

With Rajinikanth back as Muthuvel Pandian, Nelson returning to his trademark mix of action and dark humour, and a much bigger ensemble in place, ‘Jailer 2’ is shaping up to be another full-blown Thalaivar spectacle.

The film is set to hit theatres on October 15.
