In my own life, I suffered like the character played by Nimisha in ‘The Great Indian Kitchen’: Jeo Baby

Jeo Baby, one of the most acclaimed directors in Malayalam cinema, is known for his stellar works including The Great Indian Kitchen and Kaathal – The Core. A multi-talented personality, the ace director has also proven his prowess as an actor. His acting stints range from a comic role in the Althaf-Anarkali starrer Mandakini to a refreshing portrayal of an intriguing cop in the recently released Malayalam web series Kerala Crime Files Season 2.
What has now caught the attention of the internet is a recent revelation made by the director during a conversation with Mathrubhumi. When asked whether he would like to tread a different path as a director—given the rather serious themes he has explored so far—he was quick to respond that he indeed would like to do so.
Speaking further, he said, “The Great Indian Kitchen is actually my story. I had to go through a situation similar to the character played by Nimisha Sajayan, which made me relate to the ordeal of numerous women struggling on a day-to-day basis. That’s what led to the making of that particular film,” the director shared in a moment of deep reflection.
He then opened up about his next film, Kaathal – The Core: “See, with Kaathal, to begin with, I found the screenplay very interesting. Then we approached Mammootty, and once he gave us a heads-up, everything fell immediately into place,” he said, recalling how the project came together.
Jeo Baby clearly hinted that he plans to make a film very different from anything he has done so far—potentially a lighter, more refreshing venture.
This interaction offered an intimate glimpse into the journey of a filmmaker—his thought process, his approach to storytelling, and his aim to create cinema that is emotionally resonant and refreshingly new.
