Actor Imran Khan has asked the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) to provide the documents and evidence used to issue a show-cause notice concerning the possible cancellation of his Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) status.

In his representation to the authorities, Imran has questioned the basis of the notice, arguing that the reasons cited are vague and contradictory. He has also alleged that the FRRO appears to have reached a preliminary view that his OCI status may be cancelled even before considering his response.

The actor has specifically raised questions about a Mumbai Police report cited in the notice. According to him, the report is incomplete, and he has not been given access to the supporting material on which the authorities have relied. He has requested the relevant records so that he can examine the grounds for the proposed action and prepare an effective reply.

Why did the FRRO issue a notice to Imran Khan?

The proceedings against Imran follow a case registered in connection with his alleged participation in a protest at Mumbai's August Kranti Maidan on October 10. The demonstration was held against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

Following the incident, the FRRO first issued a Leave India notice to the actor. The authorities subsequently served him with a show-cause notice over the possible cancellation of his OCI status.

Imran has challenged the Leave India notice before the Bombay High Court, contesting the direction that he leave the country.

Bombay High Court puts Leave India notice on hold

The Bombay High Court has stayed the Leave India notice issued to Imran Khan, providing interim relief to the actor. The matter is scheduled to come up for its next hearing on November 2.

Separately, his request to the FRRO focuses on the evidence and grounds behind the show-cause notice concerning his OCI status. He has sought access to the material referred to by the authorities, arguing that he needs it to understand the allegations and submit a meaningful response.

The proceedings concerning Imran's OCI status remain ongoing. The next court hearing is expected to take place on November 2, when the matter will be taken up by the Bombay High Court.
