'I had beer, it was my mistake': Influencer Dhanya apologises after drunk driving case

Kasaragod: Social media influencer Dhanya, popularly known online as Helen of Sparta, has released a video explaining the drunk driving case registered against her by the police.
In the video, Dhanya shared the results of the breathalyser test conducted by the police and admitted she had consumed alcohol. She was not denying that she had one beer, acknowledged that it was a mistake, and promised she would never repeat it. At the same time, she dismissed what she described as false rumours surrounding the incident.
"I received only the usual penalty that any ordinary person would get for drunk driving. I have never encouraged anyone to drink alcohol. Claims that my vehicle was seized because it contained MDMA are completely false," she said. Dhanya added that she initially did not stop her vehicle during the police check because she feared people would recognise her.
"It turned into something much bigger than what actually happened. I saw reports saying I was absconding and that my vehicle had been taken into police custody. Some even claimed MDMA was found in my car. I sincerely apologise. I had one beer at an event. I should not have driven after drinking. I stopped the vehicle in front of my house. The police asked if I had consumed alcohol, and I admitted it. The breathalyser test confirmed it," she said.
According to Dhanya, the police clearly informed her that she only had to pay the court fine. She admitted that she should have exercised better judgment.
"I should have thought more carefully. If something serious had happened, regret would have been of no use. The police explained the seriousness of the matter before leaving. Both my vehicle and I remained there. I won't repeat this. The mistake was entirely mine," she said.
Dhanya concluded her video by saying, "I am very, very sorry."
