‘I faced death threats and dropped from big films’: Parvathy Thiruvothu

Actor Parvathy Thiruvothu has revealed that she was sidelined from several major film projects for raising her voice on women’s safety in the film industry. She also said she received rape and death threats during that period, but was supported by her family and close friends.
Speaking in an interview with Zoom, Parvathy said, “I received numerous rape threats and death threats. During that time, my parents, brother, and a group of friends stood firmly by my side. They formed a protective circle around me. This was the kind of support I received when I spoke out against injustice.”
She added that many women joined the Women in Cinema Collective, and the experience made her realise that not everyone has access to the same level of love, empathy, and support.
“I do not want to work with such people. If they find fault with my work, I will judge them too. They are exploiters who use their power to suppress others and benefit from it. I will continue to expose such people and hold them accountable,” she said.
Parvathy’s upcoming projects include the films Prathamadrshtya and I Nobody. She is also currently working on the web series Storm, which also stars Alaya F, Srishti Shrivastava, Rama Sharma, and Saba Azad.
