‘How much success is enough?’: Taapsee Pannu’s quote is a reality check

Success today comes with expectations, achieve more, earn more, and never stop chasing the next milestone. But what if the constant pursuit of "more" leaves little room to enjoy everything you've already built?
On her 39th birthday, actor Taapsee Pannu's perspective on ambition and happiness is welcomed by people who are rethinking the pressures of hustle culture.
In an earlier interview with Galatta Plus, Taapsee shared the question she asks herself every day, "How much success is enough?" It is a simple thought, yet one that challenges the way many people measure achievement.
She added on how success can become an endless cycle. A ₹100-crore film is followed by the desire for a ₹200-crore hit, then ₹500 crore, ₹1,000 crore and beyond. According to her, if there is always another milestone to chase, when do you actually stop and appreciate what you've accomplished?
Taapsee admitted there was a time when she was so focused on reaching the next goal that she forgot to enjoy everything happening in between.
Looking back, she realised those moments could never be recreated. The journey itself, she believes, deserves just as much attention as the destination.
She also spoke about letting go of the need for constant validation. Instead of trying to prove she is the best actor or competing with others, Taapsee said she now chooses to live happily for herself.
Her perspective doesn't dismiss ambition. It draws a healthy line between wanting to grow and feeling trapped by the pressure to keep outperforming yourself. Ambition can inspire progress, but without gratitude, every achievement risks becoming just another stepping stone to the next target.
Taapsee also acknowledged that this isn't a one-time realisation. It is something she consciously reminds herself of every day because it's easy to slip back into the race.
At a time when productivity is often celebrated, perhaps the more important question isn't how successful we can become but whether we're allowing ourselves to enjoy the life we're building along the way.
