'House of the Dragon' S2 finale leaks, clips go viral on social media

New Delhi: With just a half week left before the relase, clips from the season finale episode of 'The House of Dragon', which was set to air on August 4, were illegally uploaded on X and TikTok on Tuesday night and quickly spread across other social media platforms, as per the reports.
These clips appeared to be recorded by someone filming a screen with a secondary device.
HBO released a statement saying, "We are aware that clips from the 'House of the Dragon' season finale have surfaced across social media platforms. The clips were posted after an unintentional release from an international third-party distributor. HBO is aggressively monitoring and removing clips from the internet, and fans can watch the episode in its entirety this Sunday night on HBO and Max."
Many users have uploded it on social media urging everyone to watch it before the release. The videos have gone viral and have recieved more than 100,000 views already. While the TikTok account was immediately banned, the videos had already travelled to X and Reddit. The clips have been going viral on both platforms as well.
This isn't the first time "House of the Dragon" has faced a leak. Back in October 2022, just as the series was gearing up to premiere its first season finale, the episode was leaked online two days ahead of its scheduled release. As per reports, The 'Game of Thrones' franchise had also faced similar issues in the past, often occurring when episodes are sent to HBO's global content partners just before airing, The 2022 leak, for example, was traced back to a distributor covering Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
'House of the Dragon' takes place 200 years before the events of 'Game of Thrones', the HBO megahit that ran for eight seasons from 2011 to 2019.
